AmeriCorps has partnered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create Public Health AmeriCorps, a groundbreaking new initiative made possible by a $400 million investment of the CDC’s American Rescue Plan Act funds. COVID-19 demonstrated that we need a more robust public health workforce, and the workforce must reflect the communities being served. Through Public Health AmeriCorps, thousands of AmeriCorps members will be recruited to serve communities across the country and support their critical public health needs.
Public Health AmeriCorps has two overarching goals:
<ul>
<li>Help meet the public health needs of local communities by providing needed capacity and support in state and local public health settings and advancing more equitable health outcomes for communities who are currently or historically underserved.</li>
<li>Provide pathways to good quality public health-related careers through onsite experience, training, and more, with a focus on recruiting AmeriCorps members who reflect the communities in which they will serve.</li>

Our Community Innovations for Racial Equity Initiative focuses on building local BIPOC-led community development capacity, supporting community power, exploring innovative community ownership models, and addressing the barriers and gaps within community development and health partnerships to effectively propel racial equity. 
The goals of the Community Innovations for Racial Equity are: 
<ul>
<li>Facilitate new connections and deepen existing connections between BIPOC-led Community Development Corporations (CDCs) and other peer organizations and provide increased access to resources, tools, and the larger national dialogue. </li>
<li>Embed capacity within these organizations to undertake community ownership models and health strategies that engage healthcare organizations (hospitals, healthcare systems, and health payors), Community Development Financial Intuitions, and other mission-driven investors. </li>
<li>Champion race equity partnerships, policies, approaches, and investments that magnify impacts and outcomes.</li>
<li>Lift up for a national audience insights, tools, resources and best practices for community-led and community-owned approaches for others doing work in this area.</li>

What is Public Health Accreditation?

<li>The measurement of health department performance against a set of nationally recognized, practice-focused and evidenced-based standards.</li>
<li>The issuance of recognition of achievement of accreditation within a specified time frame by a nationally recognized entity. </li>
<li>The continual development, revision, and distribution of public health standards. </li>
</ul>
The mission of the Public Health Accreditation Board is to advance and transform public health practice by championing performance improvement, strong infrastructure, and innovation. Accreditation and recognition provide a means for health departments to build capacity in key public health areas. PHAB offers two programs for health departments to be recognized for meeting national public health standards. Public Health Accreditation and Pathways Recognition. Accreditation and Recognition provide a means for health departments to build capacity in key public health areas, support performance improvement efforts, and can be part of a health department’s transformation journey. Each is built on evidence-based standards that allow health departments to demonstrate performance and accountability to communities, policymakers, and other stakeholders. Benefits of Accreditation and Recognition include:

<li>Promotes a culture of quality and performance improvement</li>
<li>Increases capacity to respond to public health emergencies</li>
<li>Encourages the use of equity as a lens to identify health priorities</li>
